PICÓS PROJECT COLLECTION COMPRISES TEN PICÓS: FIVE PRODUCED AND MANUFACTURED IN COLOMBIA BY COLOMBIAN CRAFTSMEN AND FIVE SIGNED BY A SELECTION OF EUROPEAN DESIGNERS: NATHALIE DU PASQUIER, DELTA, LUCAS MUNOZ, DIRK VANDER KOOIJ, CLEMENS WEISSHAAR & REED KRAM.
A Picó is a huge sound machine that is the driving force behind the Columbian street parties, or verbenas.
The Picós Project collection grew out of a research project initiated by the gallery in 2014 with the idea of placing the sound system, at the center of the culture and to celebrate the mystery of the sound with iconic and outsized objects.
The Colombian Picós were painted exclusively for the gallery by Professor William, a master painter famous in the streets of Barranquilla. Produced in Colombia by master craftsmen, they philologically reproduce the design developed by the local tradition, mixing Western and Colombian popular culture.
